Bottle Caps - sterilise?

Post by Gricey » Fri Jul 23, 2010 7:47 pm

My instinct says yes, but are you meant to sterilse your crown caps before use? i.e. stick them in the solution and rinse off before capping?

Gricey.

I always do so, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Thanks. I've cracked on anyways, and they're sitting away in VWP :)

I would suggest that it's just as important to sterilize your caps as it is the bottles.

Yes.
I soak the caps in the no rinse sanitiser (StarSan) while I bottle and pull the caps directly out of the solution and put them ontop of the freshly filled bottle.

Me too!

I don't know whether you NEED to but it seems to make sense to me...

That said most of my bottles are the swing top (Grolsch) variety.... Which the seals and tops also get the starsan treatment

I hardly ever sterilise them, never had an infection!
