Oxy to remove stains?

Post by staplefordbill » Sun Dec 12, 2010 12:18 am

I've bought a pot of "Oxy Max" from a pound shop today. It states that it's 30% sodium carbonate peroxyhydrate.

I've finished putting together my fermenting fridge :) but there are still horrible yellow stains on the bottom (it's an old, well used fridge) and sponging with concentrated bleach wouldn't get them off. It smells like a butcher's shop in there too. :( Would it be worth making a paste with the oxy stuff and leaving it on for an hour or so?

Coudln't hurt, but don't think it will help.
If you don't care about the delightful glossy finish, try attacking it with barkeeper's friend.

Spot on. I tried it and doesn't seem to have made any difference. What's barkeeper's friend?

It's a powdered cleaner containing oxalic acid, last lot I bought from Sainsbury. I think it is mildly abrasive.

Great for cleaning cornies to make them shiny - not tried it on plastic.

Try Dettol Mould Killer. . . It's a very aggressive bleach . . . It removes black mould stains from silicon sealant with no problems.

Thanks Aleman. I'll give that a try tomorrow.

You want the One in the Green Spray Bottle Mould and Mildew Remover . . . I think it's based on Hydrochloric Acid as the bleaching agent ;)

Just need to find somewhere that sells it now. You can buy it from Amazon but I don't fancy spending £3.50 on the delivery.
