Bubbler Airlock woes

Post by Hexe » Wed Jan 19, 2011 8:38 pm

Over the summer, my fruit wines have attracted flies that duly died in
the trap, but not without attaching themselves firmly to the side,
where it's impossible to reach them, and another one collected
something equally disgusting that I'm not sure what it is.

It's not possible to reach in there, and shaking it like crazy with
bleach or Chempro, and the dishwasher have all failed to clear this
up.

Has anyone got a tip how I can save those airlocks?

cheers,

Hexe

I had some crud in mine and used thick bleach like the stuff that sticks to toilet bowls. I left it in for an hour then flushed through with hot water.
I brew therefore I ... I .... forget

If all else fails, go to boots and pick up a bottle of "Ataka" kettle descaler stuff.
It's a 40% formic acid solution. Costs about 2 quid. That should dissolve.... everything that is not plastic, given time.
