Please would somebody be kind enough to list all the no-rinse sanitizers available.
I bought some peractic acid about 3 months ago and now gather that
(a) it is probably at the end of its shelf life so I face having to throw most of it away so it has been a waste of money and
(b) Aleman kindly told me that it can't be used on copper.
I have looked on the star san website and I can't find any mention of shelf life so would be grateful for advice on that and I read that It foams.
So is there a product that keeps at least a year, doesn't foam and can be used on copper please?
No rinse sanitizers - what is available?
Re: No rinse sanitizers - what is available?
First of all, don't worry about starsan's foaming, that's deliberate. The foam sanitizes as well as the solution proper, and floats on top of beer in your fermenter (until it degrades), sanitizing as it goes.
You could use saniclean, which is the CIP version of starsan and doesn't foam. If you're really worried about foam, that is, which you shouldn't be.
Both products are stable, and don't have a set shelf life if i am not mistaken. Should easily last a year.
You could also use iodophor, which doesn't foam and is safe on copper. You can buy a bottle of Videne Aqueous Solution from Boots or any decent chemist, that should last a year. Five Star make Io-Star which is another iodophor designed for this purpose, and may work out being more economical. Not 100% sure on that, never used it.
Some people (including myself) have used acidified bleach as a no-rinse sanitizer to good effect. I wouldn't bother, and suggest one of the above. Personally, I use starsan.
