Bottle Sterilisation

Post by coastie » Fri Sep 02, 2011 10:05 am

Hi all,

Ive done a search and cannot find the answer to my q's!

My 1.5L plastic bottles have arrived and today is the day for moving my beer into them

Obviously i need to sterilise them and was wondering the best way to go about doing this?

Should I just soak them in a FV of sterilising solution, then rinse and fill?

I assume the oven method cant be used with plastic?

thanks

Wolfy

Rinse them (for the recommended time) in a non-rinse sanitizer like Starsan and you're good to go.
Don't put them in the oven, they'll melt, but a non-rinse sanitizer will work fine.

Another vote for Star San. I put 2ml in 500ml of filtered water (hard water area) in a garden spray bottle and then spray into the necks of the bottles while rotating the bottle to get a good few mls in each one and make sure it coats the entire inside surface.

Leave for a few minutes, another swish round to be sure then rinse in hot water (I know its non-rinse but makes me feel better).

Never had a problem with this method.

Lol, I do exactly the same (though with paracetic acid) I know it's no rinse but just can help thinking it's perhaps best rinsed off #-o
