I'm going to be bottling into 40 brand new PET bottles (500ml coopers) in the next week or so, still a bit of a noob but found all the rinsing involved in bottling V.tedious so far and a bit of a waste of water really, will be gettng some starsan soon, anyway my question is; bearing in mind these bottles are all brand new would just filling each one with boling water be enough to steralise them this time?
Also what about oven steralistation? i realise that this is probably out of the question for PET bottles (though the coopers ones seem pretty sturdy - would they really melt at 100 deg?) anyone ever had a mad moment and tried this? also what temp is best for glass bottles and how long?
Many thanks for any help!
cleaning / steralising PET bottles
Re: cleaning / steralising PET bottles
Boiling/very hot water will shrink PET bottles. I actually use this method to get a 500ml coke bottle to fit in a pocket of a rucksack.
I brew therefore I ... I .... forget

Wash/rinse/drain them, then use StarSan to sanitize before bottling your beer.

Tbh, if they're brand new, I'd just starsan them.
