Ginger Smell

Post by nutmeg31415 » Fri Sep 14, 2012 9:09 am

Ive just kegged a batch of Coopers ginger beer, and even after a wash the FV still smells of ginger. Any ideas how I can get rid of it, and whether it will affect my next batch of Porter. so far I only used washing up liquid as I didnt want to waste sterilising powders as I wont be fermenting for a week or so

Get yourself some soda crystals and soak your FV in a medium strength solution for 30 minutes, then give it a good clean with a soft dish brush or a microfibre cloth, then fill with a weak bleach solution for 30 minutes and rinse.

Cheers, I'll give that a go, and then get a spare fermenter reserved for just ginger beer or cyder kits! I shall learn next time!
