Do I need to sanitise brand new polypins?
Do I need to sanitise brand new polypins?
I don't want to waste 20L of VWP solution each time if they're considered to be sanitised by virtue of being new.

No you will still need to sanitise, you could always use thin bleach and then swill with a sodium met solution for a cheaper option.

Personally I wouldn't but if your going to VWP is a long and expensive way of going about it, use a no rinse sanitiser and leave VWP for when something needs cleaning.

Bit of bleach and water swilled around then rinsed out is all it needs

Well you don't need a full 20L of solution. Make up one litre and slosh it about.

Yes thats what I do, a litre is plenty for a 10 or 20 litre polypin... I do use 2 litres of starsan solution for a corni though- making sure the dip tube gets a good amount of contact.Invalid Stout wrote:Well you don't need a full 20L of solution. Make up one litre and slosh it about.
A litre of start san solution is only 1.6mls from a bottle... The stuff seems expensive but is good value as it lasts for ages - I've had my 8oz bottle nearly 3 years!

I also only tend to use VWP for cleaning FV's and the like or a pin if its less than spotless.
Good luck & happy brewing!
