Help please: First use of Starsan and Corny Keg!

Post by darthballs » Sat Nov 03, 2012 1:31 pm

Can I have some advice please folks.

I have 10 litres of RO water from pets at home, a small pack of unopened starsan and a single corny keg to steralise. I also have a regulator and almost full gas cylinder ready to go.

How much solution do I need to properly steralise the keg so that I can put my tripel spuduliet in it?

I do 3.5 ml per two litres of water with Star san. I keep it in old pet bottles, and with ro water it keeps for months. Get a medicine syringe from pharmacy, makes life easier when making the star san up.
Stick a couple of litres in the keg, shake the he'll out of it, put pressure on and dispense it out back into bottles, then you've sanitised the out post too.
Fermenting: Russian Imperial Stout experiment, Raspberry turbo cider, Wilko Rose wine, Plum wine

Keg1: Coopers Euro Lager

Keg2: Empty :(

Keg3: Empty :(

Keg4: Empty :(

Pretend to be a junkie and visit a needle exchange, the syringes are free. I don't know about Enlgand, but in Scotland you just have to put your name and postcode down on a form to get some syringes. That's what I do, there's a pharmacist 10 minutes walk away from me that also runs a needle exchange and none of the other nearby pharmacists sell 5ml ones, just 1ml.

and you don't need 2 l in your Keg.

.5l sloshed about would be fine but SS is cheap so stick in 2 l and flush your taps and line whilst your at it, don't forget .5l in a spray goes a long long way.

Don't fear the Foam
