The Stench of Vinegar

Post by fatbelly » Fri Nov 23, 2012 3:01 pm

My last brew was done back in June, directly after brewing a put my to be washed FV in my garage the next day.
Unfortunately because of a rotten set of circumstances I have been unable to brew since but I am doing so tomorrow. But I have just checked my FV and it stinks of Vinegar. I am currently sterilising it and will do again tomorrow before my wort goes in. Will this be enough?

If its become infected with vinegar, after a very thorough clean I'd recommend a soak in watered down (odourless) thin-bleach. About 10cc bleach per 1L water. Make sure it contacts all of the Fv including lid & nooks & crannies.

You can get rid of any bleach smell afterwards with a solution of 1 campden tablet in 5L water.

Then rinse, sanitise and pray...
