Will steriliser kill my brew?

Post by CJR » Sun Apr 28, 2013 8:25 pm

Hi everybody,

Stupid mistake I know but I'm just putting my brew into fermenter and I can't remember whether or not I rinsed the Antiformin S I sprayed to sterilise the FV out or not. I spray so there shouldn't be much in there but will it kill the yeasties and ruin my brew if present?

Worst case scenario, you'll delay the start of fermentation for a bit, but yeasties are tough and tenacious little buggers and require a concerted effort to kill

Should be ok :)

I've chucked in my new fishtank heater to keep temp around 21C. Glad that's the worst case scenario. :)

It's chlorinated, so if you'd didn't rinse thoroughly, your beer will almost certainly taste absolutely foul.

I'm currently waiting for keg space right now. I'll have to break into it soon though. It fermented out pretty quickly (3 days) so I figure it might already be pretty thin.

Update: Easily drinkable. Rather bitter (AG kit, Twisted Stout from the Malt Miller) but still drinkable. Not sure if bitterness is antiformin or just the flavouring.
