Cleaning Agents - Oxy (insert brand)

Post by razzrockbolt » Sun Sep 08, 2013 12:55 pm

A lot of threads discuss the use of active oxygen cleansers. Are these a direct replacement for products such as star san, i.e no rinse, or they similar to bleach/chlorine based products and need rinsing afterwards?

Some guidance on how to use this stuff on bottles etc would be very helpful.

Use it in hot water, and rinse thoroughly - as you would with soda crystals. It has a similar "soapy" feel to the solution.

Oxy is a cleaner and needs to be rinsed off, it does not sanitise, it just cleans. Very useful for shifting stubborn dirt.

Starsan and videne are no rinse sanitisers.

Vanish "Extra Hygiene" WILL sanitise due to it containing/producing peracetic acid, but its certainly not a no-rinse solution due the residue it leaves like other oxys.

Was intrigued by this stuff so checked it out in Asda today, it contains "perfume" unfortunately. Had it been perfume-free then I might have given it a go.

And my starsan 8 oz still has about 3 oz left after six month. copied an idea from Orlando, made a big old mix in a cheap factory shop plastic container, keep it covered, check Ph every time I want to use it...goes on for ever

don't know where to get videne. As a small tip I find cleaning an fv straight after emptying really helps
Just like trying new ideas!

Most chemists should be able to order it for you. Arount £8-10 for a 500ml bottle :)

Cheers Tom
