How to clean a husk stained Igloo Ice Cube mashtun

Post by fisherman » Mon May 05, 2014 9:02 am

Hi , I have been mashing weekly to get my beer stocks up before the warm weather comes to us. So I have an Igloo cube 45 litres plastic cool box with stains indide. What should I use to clean it up. The coolbox is in perfect condition apart from staining. Is there any advantage in changing to a 50 litre thermopot mashtun?. Thanks for any replies.

I find oxy cleaner and have and hit water us great for mist things. Just make sure to give it a good rinse after.

Fill it with water add bleach, plenty of it, and leave for a week.
Or.
Go over the inside with a UPVC cleaner then rinse well.

As Jim said in your post in the C, S and S forum, why bother, it's doing no harm. As long as it's clean, staining doesn't matter.
Best wishes

its a mash tun. Rinse it and dry it then leave it. as long as the manifold and spiggot are clean it should be ok. Anything that originally goes in there will be boiled. Save yourself a job:)

I agree with the previous 2 posters. If it was an FV, then it'd need cleaning properly or more likely replacing, but on a mash tun? If I could brew often enough to create that sort of staining, I'd be proud :D

I use a soda crystal solution on mine every year or so to keep it spanking clean.
