I have some bottles I was given that I think have been left (opened) outdoors for some time. Over time I guess they've collected a little rain which has evaporated leaving a "ring" around the inside of the bottle. This doesn't seem to want to shift using oxyclean and a bottle brush. I'd prefer not to stick them in the recycling, so I'm thinking of giving them a soak in a solution of citric acid to see if that will clean them.
Does that sound like it should work, or should I try something else, or is it really far less pain just to bin them and move on?

Cleaning "rings" in bottles
Re: Cleaning "rings" in bottles
It should but If it doesn't they should probably be consigned to the recycling bin.
Good luck

Yes, if I can't get them clean then I certainly won't be putting beer in them.

Re: Cleaning "rings" in bottles
I picked up some bottles from a local pub and used half a teaspoon of sodium percarbonate per bottle and hot water (>60C) for half an hour. Absolutely clean inside.
Re: Cleaning "rings" in bottles
That might be worth a try too then as it's probably a higher concentration (and higher temperature) than I'd normally use.

Re: Cleaning "rings" in bottles
Some months ago I cleared out a pub cellar and collected 50 old bottles which I dumped into a bath of bleach and left for 10 days cleaned perfect

I've not had a bath for years. It's very peaceful here
