Trouble cleaning budget barrel

Post by inthedark » Sat Dec 08, 2007 6:53 pm

Hi all

I made the mistake of emptying but not rinsing one of my budget barrels, and now I'm having serious trouble cleaning it.

I've tried soda crystals and various concentrations, including nigh on 500g to 25l of hot water. I've tried soaking in a strong solution of Sainsbury's own brand oxy cleaner (no perfume) for an hour, but nothing's working so far.

I've just refilled with hot water and a cup of oxy stuff with a view to leaving it overnight.

Firstly, is overnight going to be OK? It won't damage anything will it? Secondly if this doesn't work, are there any other suggestions?

Thanks - my first brew following the summer is waiting on this, so I'm keen to get it clean!

It's a brown residue. What concentration of bleach do you suggest?
