Re: Wheeler's Beer Engine

Just downloaded v1.06. I like it!

However there is one issue I have - not sure if it's the way my set-up is configured, but I haven't found a way of fixing it. The application screen display seems to be partially compressed - ie not fully maximised. This means that the column values are not aligned under the relevant headings, which is confusing. Also some of the values are completely obscured by the Adjust Weight buttons. I do not seem to be able to paste a screen dump directly on here of what I am seeing, but here is a link to it:

I am running Win XP Home edition, SP3. Any ideas?

Weird!
Can you tell me what screen resolution you are set to.

I am on XP pro, but I am afraid of going to SP3 because I have an AMD based machine and SP3 made a horrible mess of my brother's AMD-based machine. Apparently, SP3 and AMD do not get on.

Graham, it's 1440 x 900 pixels. I tried changing the screen resolution to various settings, but even the lowest (800 x 600) just made the relative display size bigger but didn't cause it to "unwrap" or resolve the problem. My machine has an AMD Athlon 2400+ chip, btw, but I've never had any issues with it and SP3.

In that case I am stumped. It might possibly be that something got corrupted on the download, but I would expect that to cause it to crash. So I am afraid that we'll have wait and see if anyone else has the problem who uses the same combination of software / hardware as you, and then try to track it down.

Cheers, Graham. I've uninstalled it and then reinstalled it from your link, which I notice is now a new release v1.07.

No joy, unfortunately. Guess I'll just have to wait.

Regretfully, from v1.06 I fixed a minor but irritating bug that mentaldental pointed out to me, and this went up on my site as as v1.07. Unfortunately, in so doing, I introduced a bigger bug which meant that the grain editor did not work. That has now been fixed and has gone up as 1.08. Apologies to those that downloaded v1.07.

Thanks Graham - have downloaded the latest version. One bug ( :?: ) when saving recipes it doesn't retain the weights of the ingredients?

Just noticed the example recipes - nice touch. It gives beginners something they can start with and make modification to. 8)

Would be good Graham if you could sell the zip file to the recipes which appear in BYOBRA and we could pay and download them? Presuming you retain the copyright to them etc etc. Just an idea!

Fermenting - I'm Done

Bottle Maturing - Hobgoblin, Fullers ESB, American Stout, TOP, Fullers London Porter, Bandini Black IPA

New version up there now, 1.09, that fixes an intermittent bug with the loading of recipes and one or two other minor issues.

Chris-x1 wrote:You mention

Set To Linear Button
A linear approach to predicting hop alpha-acid utilisation is another valid method. The 'Set To Linear' button loads preset parameters that produce numbers that do not differ substantially from the Tinseth numbers over normal gravity ranges. Boil-time compensation is switched off when the linear button is pressed (so that it matches the stuff. Should you require boil time compensation you will need to select it separately. See the 'Late Hop' section below.
No, I removed a lot of the stuff in the hop utilisation defaults help because I thought that there was too much of it, so It now just sticks to Beer Engine specifics.
