Tis true, but after you've almost killed yourself on the Cat & Fiddle run trying to get there, it's kind of not important....you're just shaking too much to care   8)

Oh yes...bring it on
I love the sound of toffee...mmmmm
And in exchange I can offer an Oatmeal Stout or a Hunky Dory, having said that it'll probably cost the same to send you both 8) ....but unfortunately no hazy ones....see Wez for those  :P
If you want neither of my offerings I won't be offended in any way

I too have a bottle of Calum's Finest, settling in the shed, along with all my other beers, and will be returning a Parcel, fairly soon once She has drunk a lot more Ginger Beer (I can't stand the stuff and Morrisons have stopped carrying Keg Shandy :( ).

I think this is an excellent idea, and exchanging beer is a great way to get feedback, although I have a great difficulty describing tastes (like a few I suspect :) ) One thing I will say is that if this continues, then it is probably better to put it in a forum of its own, so that we can have a thread for each beer, which would help to understand what each 'taster' found with each beer.

I'm for that too Delboy.

My bottled stock is getting a bit low but I plan to brew as often as SWMBO will allow over the next couple of months so I should have a selection to choose from.

Garth's Grandad's Brown Ale.

Image

I had a real Christmas treat last night, this beauty above! I don't claim to be a wordsmith like Billy Shakespeare so I will try my best to describe it.

I chilled it in the fridge for a couple of hours so it was cool, not cold. It had good, but not excessive carbonation & had a nice, deep red colour.

The taste was dominated, but not overpowered from the darker malts & it had a slight "biscuity roast" flavour, probably from the Amber Malt.

Hop bitterness was slightly noticable, but not overpowerful, just right to my taste buds for a Brown Ale.

I don't know if anyone has tried the "Rusty Rivet" brown ale which is made for Asda by Shepherd Neame, that is what I was reminded of when I tried this beer. Garth's malt character is slightly more assertive than "Rusty Rivet" & is an ideal winter warmer.

Shepherd Neame also make a bitter, "Gentleman Jack", and a Porter, "Whitechapel Porter", for Asda. Don't let the Asda label put you off, they are fine beers.

To conclude, a darn fine brew beer for those who prefer a more robust brown ale & I really enjoyed it, cheers Garth! 8)

Here is the link to the brewday.

Cheers Vos.

I might go down the hot toddy route for some relief this evening (without the hot water and sugar of course  ).
