Well, you strike up a dialogue with a forum member who's beers you might want to try - and open up with, say, 'Do you come here often?' often followed by 'How long have you been brewing?' 'My, you must be good then', and then proceed to 'I'll show you mine, if you show me yours', and arrange to exchange fluids. ;)

Thanks for the tips  , ill keep my eye out. I plan to start some kits - i know its not AG but ill probably progress to extract brewing and experiment with hops etc. So if anyone is interested in trying a bottle or two of the kits - stout and a larger once i get a fridge up and running, ill be happy to exchange.

Oxford Brewer's Bramling Beauty

I met up with OB at this month's Oxford Brewers' meeting - we'd arranged to do a swap of a couple of bottles :D

I lasted out two days before opening this one up - don't use the flip top Grolsch bottles myself, but it was a pleasure to have a loud pop when flipping this one open. It's well carbonated - wish some of mine would carbonate this well

Nice orangey colour, beautifully clear and had a good head on pouring and retained its head all the way down.

Lovely fruity aroma, and a beautiful dry bitter flavour - not overpowering but certainly long lasting, and one that would definitely make me head for another - think this is definitely a brew I'll be looking to do myself in the future - I can see this being a real winner for summer evenings. :D

Looking forward to trying OB's mild in a few weeks time when it's has time to sit in the bottle. :D

EDIT: Should have added - SWMBO liked it too - thought it was a lovely bitter pint too - not too strong but tasty :D

ok, it's not beer, but it's still homebrew...and I thought it was a bit different...

Tonight Matthew, I'll be mainly sampling ...Horden Hillbillys Shiraz

I've had this bottle ages, well ages if you count it in beer years. I was going to save it a bit longer but I needed a small glasses worth for my Pan seared Venison in red wine, shallots and blueberries,.......mmmmm

I only ever drink red and usually it's Merlot or Shiraz, and I'm not a wine writer so bear with me. I opened the wine, let it breathe for a while then poured it out, it smelt exactly like a good quality Shiraz from the offy. Big fruit taste came over straightaway and it was incredibly smooth with a hint of dryness right at the end, a cracking bottle of wine, Cheers Dave, nice one, and I hope you don't mind me using a glass worth on the hob... :D

You certainly managed to squirrel that one away! It was bottled on 3/6/07. & had it's moment of fame as being the wine I made on my website.

Forgiven you the glass on the hob, I often do so myself in a Spag Bol, the rest of the bottle goes in the Hillbilly!

Kegged It Brewery JB Christmas Stout

Which is a rather nice winter warmer provided courtesy of Damfoose when he came over for our joint brewing session back at the beginning of November.

The bottle opened with a lovely hissss, and the beer poured well with a nice head . . . which faded to give a nice ring of foam around the glass.

Aroma is of malt with more than a hint of licorice, rather pleasant in fact.

Tastewise it is a complex beer, sweet certainly, with roast notes, certainly malt is present, and there are very few bum notes (A Possible yeasty undertone) . . . . A bit of a surprise really when you consider that this is a 'kit' beer . . . Ok so itts two stout kits made up to 5 gallons . . . but is very acceptable . . . And a very nice alcohol note

Good One Neil! =D> =D> =D>

not really a review but I've been lucky enough to taste both J_P's and Parva's beers and both have been excellent - definatley spurred me on to make my own.

once tasted, converted! =D>

....you obviously haven't tried mine. I've done more damage to the Homebrew industry than CJJ Berry :D

Yep, from all the reviews I've read, I don't think there's anyone who's sent an artificially carbonated beer.

Yes they get shook up but a few days to a week in the cool and they should drop as bright as they were before posting.

is that what you were getting at?

Yup, that was it. When I brew something that I feel is worthy of note, I will invite some critical comments (constructive of course) assuming that the recipients survive.

A Martial Ant triple whammy

Got chatting to Mark via PM about a non-brewing subject and the geezer was kind enough to send me 3 bottles of his best down from Morecombe via the ex-wife(mother lives up there) I tried the lager first as this just needed to clear. Now i,m not a lager drinker and only touch the stuff when i go abroad, most stuff in this country tastes like insipid cats p**s so i approached this expecting something similar-of course i was wrong, nicely carbonated , i could spend a night drinking this, lacked depth in flavour but thats lager for you.The other two bottles i tried one night when i had been out and came back wanting more(seemed like a good idea at the time)this was my first time tasting AG and my god could you tell.after the first bottle i opened a bottle of my kit stuff for comparison and for anyone out there wondering whether to switch to AG,do this and you wont look back. Some of my kit stuff is ok,i,ve even paid for worse in a pub but this stuff was gorgeous-Nice one Mark, much appreciated =D> =D>

That was my conclusion the day I opened the tap on my first AG keg. I thought my kit beers were pretty good but they were'nt a scratch on my AG beer.

It gives one a nice warm fuzzy feeling knowing that the majority of the populace still think homebrewing is akin to self dentistry.

TBH, I don't want them to catch on, they'll only tax it.
