hi everyone,

i'm lucky enough to live near another jims member! in fact as it turns out our dads know each other and we grew up 300 yards apart...tho we never met before....small world eh?

anyway pas8280 kindly did his milkman routine and left a bottle on the doorstep. here follows my review.

the bottle.
http://picasaweb.google.com/kayjaybrewp ... 2399113490

the beer.
http://picasaweb.google.com/kayjaybrewp ... 0605318018

This was an ipa hopped with pacific gem, and aurora as late hops. the ale had an abv of 5.2%.

as you can see from the pic it looks like a great beer with good head and a good caramel colour. i found the bitterness pretty much perfectly balanced. the ale had good body and a lovely flavour, much better than many commercial ales i've tried. it certainly knocks gk and deuchars into a cocked hat!

this was the first ag home brewed ale i've tried so have no frame of reference for comparison, however i was so impressed by this ale that it is going to be my first ag recipe when i go 'live' in about 2 weeks.

http://picasaweb.google.com/kayjaybrewp ... 8365579522
good retention too!

if this brew is in anyway typical of ag brewing then i can't wait to go ag....the future is indeed looking very rosy!!!

:D :D

Barnsley Brewer kindly sent me a sample of Brewlab Thames Valley II and with it a bottle of his Elderflower Gold.

I cracked it open last night and what a cracker it was, both me and the girlfriend loved it!! :D

I defiantly don’t possess any skills as a beer reviewer, but here goes anyway! It had a lovely citrusy nose and those flavours came through on the palette, then the sweet floral notes from the elderflower matched with just the right amount of body from the malt. Very much like an understated (in a good way) wheat beer with lovely fresh, summery vibes coming through. Brilliant =D>

Cheers,
Jamie

Thanks' Jamie, :D
Don't forget that the elderflower was S-04 yeast, the Thames Valley II is in the small bottle!

How does this work? Once its had a few weeks to clear, I'd quite like someone to have a go on the 'Old Bitch' and see what they think...

hi

pas8280 has kindly given me a couple of bottles to try.
firstly the 'styrian stunner'

nicely carbonated, good head on it, beautiful golden colour and clear as a bell
Image

going down there is good head retention

i really liked the flavour of this ale but i found it really sweet and because of that i couldn't drink more than one! pas is doing a comparison brew mashing at a lower temp to see if that produces a drier less sweet version.

all in all its a great ale its just too sweet for my taste.

Hi guys,

Here are a couple of pics of my first AG brew.. CLUELESS BUGGER BITTER.

Lets start with a pic of an unopened bottle...

Image

Now for the pour....

Image

Nice head, but being a northerner, i like a good head... however, I'm not displeased :)

They say the proof of the pud, etc. etc ...Now for a taste...

Image

BY GUM!!!!!!! I might be a tad bias, but that is lovelly :D Im well pleased!!

I'm drinking as i post, and to think its only been in bottle for a couple of weeks, it is very clear. Not like kits of extract brews ive done. Is this normall for AG brews? I think my notes say the min. maturing date should be the 25th this month. I cant see it lasting that long.

I will prob label a couple and put in back of wardrobe or somewhere and try and forget about them, but I doubt it

Errrr does anyone still read this topic?

Review of Rick Huggin`s
Camerons Strong Arm Clone

Image

This was a beautiful pint, just the right balance of malts, with a nice toffee taste
but not overpowering, the hops were just about evident but in a good way, the mouthfeel
was excellent a nice full bodied beer. =D>

Pendle Witch IPA - Haz66

A bright; nicely nosed IPA. Nice bitterness, body and carbonation. Love this one Mark; best to date in my opinion; similar to Challenger IPA; very nice mate

Witch Craft by Haz66

This one was nice and light in colour but a tad over carbonated/lively.

Very fragrant with a light body and bitterness, a good session ale for the summer me thinks

Another nice beer buddy

Barlicker Bitter by Haz66

A nice golden bitter with great bitterness and aroma with notes of smoked oak.
This is my favorite one yet Mark and not too fizzy; I could be grabbing a recipe here! :) =D> =D> =D>
