No trub from Chronical

I have a 7 gallon SS chronical. I have just brewed a pale ale using a liquid yeast WLP005.

After 24 hours i normally dump the trub. This time however there was no trub only wort coming through the dump valve. Previously i have always had a 'mr whippy' like situation so would have expected the same?

Although this is the first time using WLP005??

Any ideas??

It can take 24h for fermentation to even start so I would say that’s pretty normal.

Or did you make a starter and have a very short lag time?

Yes I made a starter, fermentation started within a a couple of hours. Only differences this time is the change in yeast. Also when transfering to the fermenter i had a slight problem with my CFC in that the wort entered the fermenter at about 27'c instead of the usually 18'c.

Poor break maybe? Wouldn't worry about it, just do it at the end if you want!

That was my thinking, after fermentation has finished, dump the trub (if there is any :) ) and then hopefully harvest the yeast to be re-used.

You make a good point :) I never thought of it, but this time i used whole hops for the first time. So that would make sense i.e. the whole hops acting as a filter.

There ya go, then!

My wort is also filtered through the whole hops in the kettle. After recirculating about a litre or so the wort is run off slowly and it's almost always very clear.
