I boil my water, because it makes me happy

, but I was wondering about the chalk precipitate. I don't bother to rack off the bolied water from the prec...

chalk as I thought it was the disolved HCO3 that was the worry and not the insoluble CaCO3 also it is a complete PITA I just let the water cool a little then use it at 80c
I have read about racking off after boiling and also that putting chalk into water is pointless as it is insoluble, so why rack off at all? The grain bed will filter any of the chalk that gets in there.
Just wondering if I am missing anything totally obvious

?
On another point it is great to watch the citric acid eat the chalk

at the end and turn everything back to shiney! Here's to critric acid!
