Any one made contact with Severn Trent?

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

I'm in a Severn Trent area, I would expect the first question from them to be "which leak are you currently being served by". I doubt sometimes if they know which pipe brings water into the house and which one takes the sh*t away.

Only my opinion of course, but in this Freedom Of Information era I would hate to deprive you of it.

I feel very sorry for anyone trying to get info out of Severn Trent.

I have to deal with utilities on regular basis (usually to do with site maintenance and planning issues) and they are the worst of a bad bunch. We tried to get them to repair a leak on one of our sites; it took them six months to respond (after about 10 letters) and they then had the nerve to try and charge us £20,000 for the leaked water.

For what its worth, Severn Trent have a rather variable water source - borehole, river extraction and reservoirs and the proportions of these can vary from week to week. I can well believe you would notice variability in hardeness. Using the more or less generic annual analysis sheets is pretty worthless. In some areas these sheets are more useful e.g. where water is supplied from one local reservoir or a single aquifer.

Well, as it happens the sheets were useful! they were shredded today by Mrs Wez and have been used as a bottom layer of bedding for the rabbits.

My Severn Tent water data arrived today and guess what, it doesn't have alkalinity or magnesium on it. Not that it would have mattered really as it was from the end of 2006. What was this I read about regular testing of water supplies?
More rabbit bedding anyone?
DaaB, have you started doing your alkalinity test kits yet?

I hate to disagree with you guys but today i have received a apologetic letter from ST giving values for calcium and magnesium.I rang back and asked for a alkalinity value and was given a local telephone number to ring.and ask for Sinbad. Anyway i think i must have misheard because it turned out to be a woman. She was very nice and said she would get someone to ring me back.Sure enough I got a call and a value for alkalinity .Unfortunately he didnot understand the calcs as i wanted to verify the value from other data to prove I understood it. However he said he would email me with a contact from the scientific dept. Sure enough I got an email and a message if I sent my calcs someone would check it out for me. (That short skirt works every time).

Once you get that contact, wonderful things happen . . . Try asking for a schedule 4 report, which I think is the one that details everything required for brewing . . . . Its just getting through the layers of 'muppets' to the person that actually knows what you, and they, are talking about

Good result though :D

My Sched 4 report from ST was the 2006 one, hope you do better than that.
