Water Treatment Sanity Check

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

Water Treatment Sanity Check

Post by softlad » Thu Mar 26, 2009 4:27 pm

Ive just put my water figures into Grahams calculator and wondered if these sound like sensible amounts of additions for 25 litres of general purppose water.

calcium sulphate 4.2g
calcium chloride 2.64g
magnesium sulphate 1.22g
sodium chloride 0.22g

These are the only suggested additions. Does this sound roughly right ?

My water is probably very different from yours but i will be brewing on Monday with a 'Bitter' water profile and these will be my additions:

4.4g Gypsum, 1.9g Epsom, 1.7g Salt, (no Calcium Chloride but if I use automatic with a Sulphate/Chloride ratio of 3:2 for maltier beers, then I add 3.1g)

Not that different from yours really, except for the salt.
