Palintest kits

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

Palintest kits

Post by cobs » Mon Jun 08, 2009 9:40 pm

Hi I'm new on the forum but am interested in the various threads on water treatment. A number of threads mention the Palintest kits to measure alkanity but I'm not sure which one to use. Apart from the photometers which are too expensive there seem to be drop count tests which have reagents for Alkalinity M and Alkaninty P and tablet count tests which have reagents for M, P and Total Alkalinity. I'm assuming that the drop count and tablet tests are simply different methods of arriving at the same conclusion. If I therefore focus on the tablet method should I be looking at Alkaninty M (as mentioned in several threads) or Total Alkanity (also mentioned in several threads).

Any help/views greatly appreciated

Thanks for the link - I've tried to find them locally without success - there seemed to be some doubts on some of the threads as to what the Salifert tests were actually measuring i.e carbonate hardness or alkalinity
