I know this is far from ideal, but here is my situation.
Obviously I want to brew, it's a weisse I'm going for, so I want pretty low alkinity.
I have hard well water and cant get my hands on a salifert kit, the pet shops around here have kits but they just give a ph reading.
I have CRS and gypsum, would I be better off
1) chucking in "some" CRS and a teaspoon of gypsum
2) just use the gypsum
3) brew away regardless
4) I know get a proper kit, even if I do pony up for the shipping to Ireland it wount be here in time!
Can I add "some" CRS
Re: Can I add "some" CRS
Hardness is not the issue, alkalinity is the stuff you need to lower, I wouldn't add CRS if you don't know your alkalinity. The best way forward in my opinion would be to keep it simple. Boil your water, cool it and then rack it off the sediment. This will lower the alkalinity to an acceptable level without having to know the initial alkalinity levels. Follow the procedure in GW's book which adds Gypsum to the boil.

Re: Can I add "some" CRS
Thanks jubby, brew put to bed.
Just added the Gypsum, should have a kit before next brew!
