Never used finings before.

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

I know nowt about finings.

Apparently there are different types ,two pack etc .

Do they work ,are they worth it?

I imagine them as leaving a thick porridgy sludge at the bottom and losing more wine in the syphoning process ,does it set into a gel and does it end up going up the tube easily?

Does it collect all the yeast ,making priming more difficult?

Sorry , but I cant sleep for worrying.

It sounds like you are making a sparkling wine?

Maybe a post in the Other Brews section may help

Not really ,I just read of people adding finings to both beer and wine and was wondering it it makes racking better or worse ,does it "set" leaving a solid mass that is easier to rack off or is there lumps of porridgy stuff that you have to be careful about sucking up.

Most of the info on here will relate to beer. Many people use gelatine to fine beer. Any finings will leave a "goo". some settle better than others. Gelatine can be disturbed quite easily. I haven't used any for years, so try a few and see, after you get a few more replies. You should still have sufficient yeast for carbonating if you have use the correct one/amount for the job in hand.

I am happy with my beer after just a week of natural clearing, others use a variety of methods.
