Bottling my 1st brew soon and need advice

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

Bottling my 1st brew soon and need advice

Post by molehill » Sat Dec 01, 2012 6:45 pm

My hydrometer reading after boil was 1041 and I transfered it to the secondary fermenter after 6 days with a reading of 1010. I was planning to bottle in a few days and was thinking of adding a carbonising sweet to each bottle. I used a Nottingham dry yeast which worked steadily over those 6 days. Would you do what I plan? #-o

I would ignore those sweets.
Go to kotmf website and put in your info into the calculator. Prime the whole secondary with White sugar dissolved prior in a small amount of water stirring gently into secondary then bottle away.

Much better

I had a look at the website but unsure how to work out the quantities to be entered into the calculator? #-o

You need to know what temp the secondary is at and the volume of beer. Then search the beer ref guide for the vols CO2 you desire. If in doubt 2.0 vols should be ok for most.
