essex water

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

I'm Pitsea and I treat with CRS and gypsum, but I seem to remember Gary Smith, who lives on Canvey saying he doesn't.

thats interesting as both areas use the same supply with a ph reading of just ove 7, have you ever tried it out the tap if so what difference did it make.

Its not the tap water pH that you need to concern yourself with in brewing. Its primarily the water alkalinity that is of concern. Another concern is knowing the hardness and its composition (calcium and magnesium). Try and find that information for this water. Then you can start deciphering what other water adjustments you might undertake. Visit the Water Knowledge page on the Bru'n Water website to learn more about what this means and how to use it.

Neil, Essex and Suffolk water are very good at giving you the values you need. I e-mail them at least once a year and put those perimeters, along with my own salifert kit test results, into the calculator here to find out what I need.
