(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

Ialso use the mash tun after the boil to settle the hops

Is it not the case that there are beer - spoiling organisms in malt which will not be killed at mash temperature?

There certainly are! I wouldn't be keen on putting wort into a plastic MT. It is less likely to be a problem if you run off hot wort from the copper and pasteurise the vessel before cooling, but if you cool in the copper and run cold wort in it's a big infection risk (as opposed to a fairly big one...).

At the moment I running the wort into the mt straight after the boil. I use the mt because it has a false bottom for straining. But a am talking with someone making one for my boiler which means I will cool it there and run straight into the fv.
