Over a one year period, the alkalinity has not changed. The only parameter that changed significantly during the year was magnesium, which went from 2.4 to 3.97.

That water doesn't look balanced. The calcium has to be wrong. Look at the figures in the previous post.

If that is the calcium figure they have given you ask for your money back

Update for Fareham area. Just spoke to a helpful chap in the lab; latest values for September 2009:

Veolia Water UK which use be three valleys water.
water report for Luton Bedfordshire area is The total hardness (alkalinity) is 365 mg/l (or parts per million).

Wow, three cheers for Bristol Water. I only emailed them yesterday evening. I also asked if I had the same water supply as the RCH Brewery in Hewish. Here is part of the email from one of their water scientists (who included their email and direct phone number if I had any further questions):

Water quality in relation to beer making

Thank you for your e-mail received yesterday, 11 November requesting
information about the chemical analysis of water with regard to the
making of beer. Your water is supplied from our wells at Chelvey as is
water in the Hewish area.

Please see the attached summary regarding results of samples of water
taken in your area, Zone 229.

I have also included a summary in respect of Chelvey water treatment
works that provides additional information relevant for the making of
beer that you may find helpful.

From Veolia [previously Three Valleys Water]

WATER SUPPLY ZONE: WEYBRIDGE / WOODHAM (TV067)
Period: 01 January 2008 to 31 December 2008

The water quality report has results for the following parameters:

pH = 7.6 (Mean)
Chloride = 41 mg/l (Mean)
Sulphate = 50 mg/l (Mean)
Sodium = 28 mg/l (Mean)

Alkalinity, calcium and magnesium are not included in the report but the typical levels are as follows:

Alkalinity = 255 mg/l
Calcium = 102 mg/l
Magnesium = 4.3 mg/l


It looks like there should be a new report out soon. I'll update if I get a copy.
