Gypsum

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

Gypsum

Post by Stringy Bob » Thu Feb 12, 2009 5:40 pm

I have 3 AG's under my belt with pretty good results so far and the only water treatment I have carried out is to add 1/2 a campden tablet to the HLT. I am not planning on looking too much into water treatment for a while yet, but I did order some Gypsum with my last HB order. Without knowing the composition of my water, will chucking a tsp in with mash improve things or is there a possibility of doing more harm than good?

Have a look hereto get a general idea of what the water is like in your postcode area. Most areas up here have soft or moderately soft water, which will benefit from the addition of a bit of gypsum.

Thanks for the replies - I had looked at that Jim, but it started to make my head hurt  I'll get a few more brews done and then make a bit more of an effort with my water treatment
