Calcium carbonate levels for brown ale???,

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

Post by beer gut » Fri Nov 27, 2009 8:55 pm

Hi everyone iam making a smoked brown ale and iam not sure what the total alkalintey levels should be to get the ph levels right. My total Alkalintey levels are 128 averge and these levels are expressed in CaC03 and my calcium levels are 51 averge.I have the brupaks list and i have seen the Alkalntey levels should be aprrox 100/150p.p.m so my thought maybe for a brown ale it should be anything from 60/100 p.p.m. how far out am i?
