Leamington spa/warwick brewers!

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

This is a longshot, but just wondering if there are any brewers in leamington/warwick who have a grasp on water treatment in the area? Iv had a go, but our water is so shit, that I cant get rid of that slightly soapy wierd taste!

Cheers!

Hello rowang,
I am in Styvechale Coventry not to far away. I am supplied by severn trent .I did try for a water report I did get Hardness average 68.25 ph 7.5 but did not get total alkilinity so I bought a salfert alkilinity test kit and it seems ok. I am not brilliant at all but the lads on this site are. Try to get a full water report from your supplier they have to give it to you. \if you do please post it ( I have found that doing the tests yourself you don't get highs and low readings )
Cheers

In Rugby, Total Alkalinity = 282.22 ppm (mg CaCO3/l). This isn't normally mentioned on the STW water report, but I asked them directly.

Put this figure into the calculator and I now add 1.39ml of CRS for each litre of water that goes into brewing (and no DLS). Since I've being doing this I've notice a marked improvement in both taste and clarity of my paler beers. I don't add as much for the darker ones though.

Just had a look on STW's web site and my above post might not be much use. We get our water from Draycote, you get yours from "surface water treatment" in Worcestershire!

Hello again,
My Coventry water treatment is 0.3 ml crs per litre. Dls 0.8grm per litre ( 9grm in dry goods and the rest in mash water) and first a camden tablet crushed in 1 pint of boiled water dissolved and added at 1/2 pint to every 20 litres of water to clear flouride and chlorine. Shame all water is not the same. my alkilinty varies but is 85.5 now.
Cheers
