5 Gallon purification

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

Whats the best way to 'purify' this much water - has anyone created a large filtering device before?

How do you mean purify?

If you want to get rid of Chlorine etc then either Campden tablets or a activated carbon filter will do it. If you want to remove all minerals then you need a reverse osmosis unit.

Most people use a point of use filter, B&Q do them for about a tenner.

Use the search function and you will find Andy :?: has a thread explaining the fittings he uses with his.

Several months ago there was an article in BYO to make a simple/cheap filter: There are water filters that go inline with your shower head, take one of those and put it into a piece of PVC pipe with fittings for a hose on each end. The filter is good for about 1000 US gal, that should get you through the year.

I personally like the setup these guys use: http://www.boathousebrewery.com/brewery/filter2.jpg

BTW: these guys area avid brewers with quite a decent real ale setup, a bit stand-offish however when I have queried them for info. Shame.
