Changes in water hardness levels in the drought

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

Changes in water hardness levels in the drought

Post by Underthethumb » Sun Apr 15, 2012 4:12 pm

I wonder if anyone else has noticed their water hardness levels changing recently?

My CaCO3 level has fallen from 245 ppm to 225 ppm. I suspect the water authority are shifting water supply from one source to another to try to manage supplies in the drought.

Might explain why my last brew only had a pH of 4.9 as I probably overtreated it with CRS.

My alkalinity has changed from 125ppm to 80ppm in 7 days, I check the alkalinity before and after I treat the water just in to be spot on.
