Anyone in or near Dagenham?

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

Anyone in or near Dagenham?

Post by mshergold » Sat Dec 20, 2014 3:59 pm

Hi. I'm just about to move to Dagenham and wondered if anyone here knows what the water is like. In Wood Green the water was hard and required boiling the day before to make the calcium drop out.

Thanks

Hi mshergold,
I dont live in dagenham but its far easier using CRS to reduce the calcium in the water.

Thanks DBF. When I last made beer, I used to boil my water the day before and then before use add a powder. Would that have been CRS? I can't believe how much I've forgotten!

CRS does NOT remove calcium.

CRS neutralises the alkalinity, the calcium remains in solution.

CRS is a liquid so it would not be that.

Are you thinking of sodium/potassium metabisulphite? If so then a "pinch" is all that is required

Ah yes! Sodium metabisulphate! Thanks again.
