Reclaiming yeast.. LME/DME substitues?

Post by Zombie069 » Sat Oct 20, 2007 9:17 pm

Just racked my stout to the secondary and I thought I'd play around with a yeast starter from the left-overs. Problem is I only have LME from my next kit and I'd rather not sacrafice it for this..
Is there anything else I can use to sub? Like table sugar or brown sugar or something that won't make the yeast unusable for beer again?

Thanks

For a starter I would suggest you DONT use sugar.

If you are able to you would be better to get your next kit made and onto the yeast cake.

Ok, just threw some ingredients out there as I don't know what's viable. Problem with going on top is next batch is a light wheat, and this batch was a stout. I read that you should go darker to re-use the cake...?

For the sake of a couple of quid on a new sachet of yeast it's not worth risking a bad brew. The more expensive safale/ fermentis yeasts are well worth a go.
