Bought a Micro Brewery kit today

Post by TELEDU » Sun May 28, 2006 6:18 pm

I decided to buy one after considering just how good value for money they are, for £45 including a king keg, pretty good value in my book. I hope to get this one going and after my first batch of TC is done. I'll use the 25ltr fermenting bin for TC then.

Is that Woodfordes Wherry? My first kit was Woodfordes Norfolk Nog, and it was really good. I like the Woodfordes kits.

QUOTE (Daft as a Brush @ May 28 2006, 06:15 PM) By my reckoning theres at least £55 quids worth there with one of those kits.

£40 for a King Keg+£15 for the Wherry, on top of that there's the gas and steraliser, anything else?
only other stuff is the yeast,o ring and the pressure cap.

I've brewed the Wherry kit, which my (London) local shop sells for about 20 quid (I know it's cheaper via Woodforde's, but then there's post). It's okay; it's not as good as Wherry itself, which is a pretty good offering.

Woodforde's, for what it's worth, is about 10mi from my home. Their beers are excellent; their pub has a good offering. Of course, my own brewery is even closer to home ;)

We drank our own produce at Woods End Bramerton today. All in all, an entirely satisfying experience.

with 5 gallon batches we technically have a "femtobrewery" :)
Sounds like you got a really good deal - its great that homebrew shops are doing more to encourage people to get going. Think the internet has revived the industry a bit? Homebrew was apparently really popular in the 60's/70's (I wasn't there)

QUOTE (Daft as a Brush @ May 29 2006, 07:10 AM) Dont be too quick to praise the 'Micro Brewery' Kit, the idea behind it is to ferment and serve from the one keg (within 3 weeks) which judging by questions on other forums produces nasty tasting beer. At £45 with the promise of producing 40 pts of finest hb it has probably put off far more brewers than it entices to the hobby
I'll probably use the king keg in future for...kegging beer after fermentation as I don't plan on brewing in just the one barrell, but only for this micro brewery kit.

just to add my 2 penny worth....For anyone using this micro brewery kit in the future...I would definately invest in a fermenting bin..I think Wilkos do them for aroud 7 or 8 quid.. If you just ferment in the king keg you will have a thick dead yeast gunge at the bottom sitting there for weeks on end which I have no doubt will add an unpleasant taste to the final product!

I used the microbrewery kit and did it all in the barrel and it was tasty right to the bottom

how much did u leave at the bottom, just the sediment or a little bit above it?

I kept drinking it until the liquid stopped flowing and i was just getting gas out. My keg is top tap and the float will only let you drink it until you get to a certian point. When i opened the barrel up to clean there was about 2-3 pints left but thick with sediemnt.

I have the top tap king keg too, I'll just drink until only gas comes out.

Hi, I bought one of these kits and followed the instructions. Mine still has a yeasty after taste to it and wish that I had done the primary fermentation in a seperate bucket. I now have one of these and it only cost around £7.
Take heed of what the grand masters of this forum say (not me BTW) and you may save yourself some dissapointment. I know I wish I had found the good folk on this forum before I started.
Regards, Mark
