Bright Beer?

Post by Martin the fish » Sat Feb 16, 2008 11:21 am

I've heard this phrase bantered about and i'm assuming it's 'clear beer'

My beers always seem nice and clear when in the bottles but compared to a recent test against bottled beers they fell short in the clarity dept. :(

How can i improve the clarity of my beer now i'm AG brewing?

Doesn't this look like a standard Q? I've tried searching but i got a million threads with no paricular order?

Thanks DaaB.
My first task is to check my Mash PH. I really cannot be bothered to hunt for my calibration fluids so i'll order some PH strips.

I boil so vigourously that i loose 14 litres from a 52 litre boil. With one element on it's a gentle simmer with two it's a fierce boil. My last brew was split into two to fit my 25ltr boiler and 25ltr HLT :D

I use irish moss-isn't that the same as a whirlfloc tablet's intended purpose?

DaaB says You can use finings but to be honest if you leave your beers long enough you shouldn't need them.

I feel that may be a large cause...

Does this mean that finings such as Isinglass merely speed up the process of clearing, rather than clearing the beer more effectively?
