Looks good Garth... I'm craving a stout so I'll be trying either this or Vossy's oatmeal stout recipe very soon.

I can vouch for that comment myself. I was lucky enough to try it courtesy of Garth. As a traditional bitter lover, I can honestly say that if commercial stouts tasted like this I would think about changing my drinking habits. I am happy with the odd pint of stout now & again, but I certainly could drink this stout on a regular basis.

Hope your brewday was a sucess Garth, although knowing you it would have been! 8)

Garth, can you remember what your O.G. / F.G. figures were ?

Mine started at 1.049 & seems to have stopped after 8 days at 1.020. I'm assuming the higher mash temp. will give me a slightly less fermentable wort but I thought it might get down a little further (I used 'old reliable' - S04) :?:

Hey Roger, I don't think mine got down much further if at all

a quick check of the records and a sample from the cornie reveal that:

Decembers batch gave OG 1052 FG 1020 giving 4.3% ABV

This current batch was OG 1058 FG 1019/20 giving 5-5.1% ABV

both used S-04 and both were mashed at 67-68C the later batch may have been slightly higher.

so it looks like that's what yours is going to stay at, the flavour with the heavy body and mouthfeel all combine to make this beer what it is, so I wouldn't be worried about a higher FG, it'll be one of your best beers I reckon

Thanks Garth, that's just what I needed. Looks like it'll be a shade under 4% then, I think I can handle that.

You're spot on about it being one of my best as well, I tried the sample jar, purely for quality control purposes, & it's lovely :=P
