Brewday 15th Mar 2008

Managed to have another brewday today - didn't expect to be able to brew today (3rd weekend on the trot) 8)

Trying the Clone Brews version of OP scaled up to 25L as follows:

5.5kg Maris Otter
460g Crystal
115g Chocolate
150g Torrefied Wheat

In the kettle:
304g Clear candi sugar
304g Soft dark brown sugar
150g Tate & Lyle Golden Syrup

33g Northern Brewer (7%) - 90min
18g Fuggles (4.5%) - 15min
18g Fuggles - 2min

Am using Danstar Nottingham for yeast.

Went well - got over 5 gallons from the sparge before reaching 1010 gravity, and after the boil (added extra water for the boil) had 4.5 gallons at 1070 - even with the losses to the hops, etc. So diluted it back down to 1062ish which is what I was aiming for - and so have 5 gallons in the FV.

Anyhow, pictures:

Nice photos - you will be competing with Martin the Fish for most brews going if you keep this up!

Comedy update here.

I came home yesterday, walked through the front door and thought, "Hmmm. That smells nice. That smells like beer...!". :!: :!: :!:

My next thought was that the brew I bottled on Sun night (AG02) had gone pop in some way, so shot upstairs, and found that in fact it was the OP clone that had blown the lid off the FV, and had started to try to take over the front bedroom...

Luckily, the old jacket I had wrapped the FV in contained the foamy stuff and stopped it going further, and it then died down a bit afterwards. Smells lovely and fermenting well from the looks of it...!!!
