Different DME's, how different?

I'm going to brew a Brewpaks Old Ale, option 2 w/spraymalt. I think amber malt is the preferred, but Hop and Grape are on holiday and Home Brew Shop are sold out of amber DME. How much of a difference will it make to the finished article if i use light or dark DME instead?

Okay, brewed this with dark spraymalt last night. OG was 1066! May have to call it Hastings or somesuch. Is that a bit high for this kit, and is it due to the darker s/malt? As far as i'm aware, the litreage was on the money, more or less.

I can't remember if I used Dark or Medium spraymalt, but when I made Old Ale the SG wasn't that high... about 1050-odd IIRC. How much Spraymalt did you add? The only thing I can think of is mixing up the quantities for LME and DME - 1Kg DME or 1.5Kg LME.

FWIW, I haven't noticed any difference in gravity when using Extra Light, Light, Medium or Dark Spraymalt.

i added 1kg of s/malt. Not overly worried, just curious really. Noticed it was a bit on the high side for any of the options shown. Amount of liquid might be a litre out but not much more.

so its rocketed down to 1018 so far, which I make about 6%! Ooh lala. Thats in about a week. It smell pretty potent too

I'm wondering whether this will benefit from priming with muscovado, or some other dark sugar?

Settled out at about 1017, gonna prime and keg tonight with muscovado I think.
