Keeping Porter

Post by oblivious » Fri Apr 18, 2008 2:11 pm

Brewed this the other day in my mew mash tun and I had a couple of problems. The first was my efficiency dropped probably because I accident left some wort behind in the mash tun. The second was I forgot to put in the hop strainer and only got 20 litres out of it; I left the rest behind with the hops :(

Keeping Porter O.G 1.074 28 litres

Pale ale malt 5.67 kg (59%)
Munich malt 1.70 kg (18%)
Brown malt 0.85kg (9%)
Chocolate malt 0.71kg (7.5%)
Crystal malt (55l) 0.281kg (3%)
Special B 0.281kg (3%)

Hops (44 IBU’s)

Northern brewer 56g 60 min
EKG 15g 60min
EKG 28g 15min
EKG 28g 5min

Sorry to hear you had a few problems but still looks like a good brewday, should be a tasty pint. :D

It looks good. I keep making darker and darker ales so will end up making a porter/stout some time soon. Maybe throw a handful of freshly ground coffee in too once I get round to it.

Plenty of time to do the DP porter before Porter drinking season comes round again. I've another 'normal' beer to do before I do something from their book again. The recipes are so simple, but great beers.

Porter is seen as more of a 'cold weather' beer for warming nights by the log fire. So any time during May/June/July will suffice

Yeah I was thinking about the colder months of Sept Oct Nov, bearing in mind a lot of the DP recipes take months to mature. They're worth it mind.

Tell me about it. Still got another 2 1/2 months to go before my Simmonds Bitter is ready =P~. I'm sure you'll have brewed a cracker though oblivious 8)
