Ready to keg??

Post by yeasty » Thu May 08, 2008 6:58 pm

I was just preparing to keg my Muntons Yorkshire Bitter after 2-3 days hovering around 1.018 but after moving the FV ready to siphon I noticed it quite clearly bubbling. Am I best holding off for a day or 2 until the bubbles have stopped?

I did move it into a slightly warmer place and possibly gave it a bit of a shake when moving so maybe it has kicked it off again.

OG was 1.050 on 1/5
1st reading of 1.020 on 4/5

not an expert but wait till you get two fg readings the same after 34hrs, also temp is a lot higher then a week ago so if you can see bubbles i would say its still at it.

At a guess I'd say in moving the beer you've disturbed the yeast sediment causing it to either kick back into life or simply release a load of bubbles which were trapped.

Regardless, 1018 is a bit on the high side still (depending on the yeast). I would leave it for a minimum of ten days (max of 3 weeks) in the primary. Also, what temp was the beer at as this affects the reading you are given?

Used Safale-04 yeast. Temperature was near enough 20' before I moved it. May be 1-2' higher after moving.

I have left it anyway and will have another look at the weekend.

I hoped it would go lower as i only made the kit up to 19 ltrs. We will see at the weekend.
