Priming

Post by Greendots » Wed Jun 18, 2008 1:09 pm

Just a quick one, my kit has finished fermenting and its been in primary for about 10 days now. How much sugar do I prime with for barrelling?

I've ordered some CO2 also, so I just use this to pressurise it when dispensing? or should it always be under some pressure?

About 80g's for the barrel is what I use, and the CO2 should only be needed when the pressure stops forcing the beer out (don't let it glug air!) alternatively forget about priming and use the gas from day one

Another quicky (sorry)

I forgot to grab any siphon tubing when I ordered the barrel+gas. Does it have to be food-grade tubing, or can I just grab any old tubing from B&Q since it'll be a short job?

How much sugar will be needed for priming old Grolsch bottles?

Unless your adding heat to the piping, any clean pipe will do to siphon.

Re. priming, iirc it's about half a teaspoon per pint for ales and about 1 tsp per pint for lager - it also depends on your preference, if you want very gassy ale use more.
