Cider smells like roast chicken
Dont know about kit cider but some of the "Farmyard" stuff you can get down ere in zomerzet smells repulsive and you darnt sniff it untill you have downed the first half pint or so and by then the senses are numb.
I do think some of them dissolve a large Ham. cockerel. or Rat in the brew while it ferments. I used to think that all that dissolving carcases in the cider was tosh but my farmer buddy swears his grandfather put a ham in his.
Bottom line is most cider has a wiff and sometimes an undefinable aftertaste. forget this room temperature lark get it chilled down cold which will deal with the smell of chicken and get it guzzled down.

*trivia warning* bizarrely enough I've just spent a week in Cornwall and returned with 2L of 'Fowl Scrumpy' which depicts on the label a pic of a chicken flat out on a fence with some empty bottles nearby. I've drunk the whole bottle. We also did the St.Austell brewery tour but preferred Doom Bar to Tribute. Not bad for a honeymoon!
