Treacle time?

Post by Flaming Barrel » Sun Aug 03, 2008 11:00 pm

Hi, as soon as i've built my boiler I'm gonna brew the brakspear special recipie from the alamanac. I've got treacle to add to the boil, and have been told to add the treacle half way through the boil. Is this correct?

I've heard that some draw off the hot wort and dissolve the treacle before adding it back to the boiler, just in case it sticks and burns to the element.

Give yourself plenty of time to get the treacle added, it's slow moving stuff and it can take a while to get it out of the can, weighed and dissolved. I'd suggest either preparing it beforehand and adding a treacle/hot water mix for the final 15 or start faffing with it around half way.

Have fun,
ML.
