Fermentaiton Didn't Start

Post by craigmtc » Tue Nov 25, 2008 2:02 pm

I started Northumberland Brown Ale kit on Sunday with Rubbish instructions. I tipped the yeast in with the temp perhaps a little loe at 20-25. Fermentation hasn't started, I know that i need to add more yeast but don't have any, and can't get to my homebrew store.

The only place I could get to would be Wilkinsons tonight, but no if there yeast will be rubbish. Also if I don't get yeast quickly will this go off?

Thanks in advance.

20-25 degrees is about the optimum temperature for pitching your yeast, fermentation can take several hours to kick in, give it more time

Have you been monitoring it? You may have just had a very fast ferment, I had the same issue the other day with a brew. You may want to check the gravity to see if it hasn't just fermented really quickly. Otherwise keep it warm (20 c is optimum) and give it a good stir without aerating it.

Thans Immy's Dad. I will take a gravity reading, however, I check it a number of times on Sunderland, and also a yesterday morning and last night.

The instructions are really porr with this kit. It basically tells you to make the kit up, leave if for 5 days, then bottle it? No priming syrup, suggestion on gravity readings or anything like you would expect.

Cheers
