I wouldn't mind this one myself, although I have googled, searched other forums, etc & I have drawn a blank myself.

It is a far better brown ale than Newcastle imho.

The only recipe I can source for double maxim is a little vague on quantities, it comes from Les Howarths Home Brewing Recipe Database. This a great book if you are looking for recipes, over 2000!! Nice stocking filler for the brewer.

Hops as Challenger, Fuggles and Target

The source is Rodger and Protz - The Real Ale Drinkers Almanac 4th and 5th Edition

Anyone fancy experimenting on this issue? Apparently Wards were the last to brew this beer having aquired it from Robinsons who got it from Vaux.
The guys from Brewlab also had contacts in the Vaux brewery.
