hello people.
recently been in the loft and brought all my brew gear down which has been resting for about 8 years with the spiders and cobwebs.
due to the the fact that a new work mate told me he was into homebrewing, and has just done muntons old conkerwood.
so i found this forum which makes interesting reading and bought muntons smugglers kit.
i made up the kit following daabs method and kegged it 3 weeks ago and have left it to mature.
now then in my old brewing days the instructions were. cover the brew lightly until the head is formed then leave the lid off.
skim and stir for the first 3 days.
dont leave the beer on the sediment for more than a week blah blah.
my question is when did these methods change to the ones daab provided iesnap lid on tight then crack a corner to let gas escape, and leave for 10 days then rack into barrel.
p.s daab you method is a lot easier than the way i used to do it.
cheers

new brew methods
Hi chunk, welcome to the forum,
I also brewed about 8-10 years ago and gave up, but started again early this year, don't know when advice changed but it was sometime in yours and mine 'resting' period!!. Things have moved on greatly for the better and people are looking at homebrew quite differently now. You can now easily create a pint equalling or bettering a pub pint for much less. Unlike in years ago when it was the 'hmm.. tastes like crap but gets you pissed' attitude.
Just follow Uncle Daabs plain and straightforward advice and you can't go wrong. There is also a stack of knowledgeable people on here who can give advice on every possible angle of homebrewing.
Good luck

I'm sure the internet has had a large part to play with the technology side of things - I did a disasterously bad Boots beer kit when I was 15 and I'd never have thought about brewing again until I stumbled across some american beer making websites a few months ago. I was actually looking for ginger beer recipes.......... this lead to this forum, John Palmers "How to Brew" book etc etc and here we are
Homebrew beer has come a long way although is it more popular than when you started we ask?
welcome back
